[Lleihau]AreaThe Wales Spatial Plan is a 20-year overarching framework for the development of Wales, based on five guiding themes: building sustainable communities; promoting a sustainable economy; valuing our environment; achieving sustainable accessibility; and respecting distinctiveness. Although these themes apply across Wales, it is recognised that people live their lives differently in the different parts of Wales and six distinct areas have therefore been defined to reflect these differences in each area\'s needs.

The Wales Spatial Plan defines six areas by means of \'fuzzy\' boundaries, to reflect the fact that policy development and delivery under the Plan are not constrained by existing administrative lines. However, boundaries of these six areas have been defined for the purposes of data collation and analysis.

These \'data\' boundaries have been designed to accommodate the wider extremes of the \'fuzzy\' policy boundaries, to provide greater linkage between the data and policy perspectives, and give broader relevance to the resultant data. As a result there is considerable overlap of the areas from a data perspective, reflecting the similar overlap from the policy perspective.

Further information on the definition of the data boundaries can be found here.

Note that as South East Wales covers almost half of the population of Wales, it has been further sub-divided into three areas facing different issues: the Heads of the Valleys, the City Coastal Zone and the intervening Connections Corridor.

The results given in this dataset have been derived using these \'data\' boundaries.

The Wales level household projections included here are the sum of the figures for each Welsh local authority, which is the appropriate comparator when comparing with individual Spatial Plan area data. If using Wales level data in isolation, or in comparison to data for other countries, then figures derived at the national level should be used. These can be obtained from the same StatsWales folder that this dataset is in, or via an e-mail to stats.housing@wales.gsi.gov.uk.[Hidlo]
