Key stage 2 CSI by free school meals eligibility

Social Justice

Local Education Authorities (LEAs) have a duty to provide free school meals to pupils from families receiving income support or a job seeker’s allowance where the circumstances are reasonable for the provision of school meals.

We can use free school meals as an approximation for those children living in poverty and those children not living in poverty.

Data for free school meals data is sourced from the Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC) and is matched to examination performance data.

As of November 2010, wherever possible, all child poverty indicators will be monitored by measuring the gap between children living in poverty and children not living in poverty.
