Percentage of children with substance misuse problems

Recent guidance published by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) offers a definition of substance misuse as ‘intoxication by – or regular excessive consumption of and/or dependence on – psychoactive substances, leading to social, psychological, physical or legal problems. It includes problematic use of both legal and illegal drugs (including alcohol when used in combination with other substances). Excludes unborn children. The data is incomplete for some local authorities.

Includes mental health problems diagnosed by a medical practitioner and children receiving Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) or on a waiting list for services. Includes depression; self harming; and eating disorders. Includes children who report experiencing mental health problems but who do not have a diagnosis. Autistic spectrum disorders, learning disabilities and substance misuse problems are not regarded as mental health problems in their own right. Excludes unborn children. The data is incomplete for some local authorities.

Casglodd y cyfrifiad gofnodion unigol ynglyn â phob plentyn mewn angen, gan gynnwys y rhai hynny sy'n derbyn gofal gan awdurdod lleol, a oedd ag achos agored gydag awdurdod lleol ar 31 Mawrth a hwnnw wedi bod yn agored am y tri mis o 1 Ionawr hyd 31 Mawrth. Diben y cyfrifiad yw casglu data sy'n mesur nodweddion a phriodweddau plant mewn angen sy'n derbyn gwasanaethau cymdeithasol gan eu hawdurdod lleol, gan gynnwys plant sy'n derbyn gofal gan awdurdod lleol. Mae'r cyfrifiad wedi canolbwyntio'n benodol ar ddata ynglyn â'r rheswm pam y mae plant yn derbyn cymorth gan adrannau gwasanaethau cymdeithasol; gallu'r rhieni; a chanlyniadau iechyd ac addysg pob plentyn.

Caiff data di-enw am blant unigol eu cymryd o systemau gweinyddu awdurdodau lleol a'u dychwelyd yn electronig i'r Tîm Casglu Data yn Llywodraeth Cymru gan ddefnyddio system ddiogel o drosglwyddo data ar-lein o'r enw 'AFON'.
